Start: Castle Crags State Park- Lower Loop Campground

 

Race Details:

For the First Time EVER- come hit the trails at Castle Crag State Park! Pending your level of adventure- take on the 50k, 35k or 10k and you are guaranteed to let your adrenaline fly.

50k: with 5,700ft of gain and loss- you will experience some fun and fast single track mixed in with a climb that will put your strength to the test only to be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Crags and Mt Shasta. You get to wind your way around the PCT and find yourself deep in the forest where its just you and the mountain.  

30k: with about 4,500ft of gain and loss it has a bit of everything.  The first 10 miles in the park will get you ready for your climb up to Girard Ridge Lookout where you can look down and smile at what you have just accomplished.  To then be celebrated as you hammer your way back down the mountain to the finish.

10k: with around 1,600ft gain- it is not just your walk in the park.  While you can turn up the pace and fly through some singletrack- the climbs will keep you honest and make all views worth the sweat and burn.

   

Course Description:

10k:

  • From Start Line- Take Campground Trail for ¾ of a mile and then keep RIGHT onto Flume Trail. You will keep LEFT and complete the loop.  Around mile 1.9 you will exit Flume Trail and head LEFT onto Bob’s Hat Trail.  You will stay on Bob’s Hat Trail until mile 3.5 and continue RIGHT on Crags Trail.  You will then reach the Aid Station 1 at Root Creek Trail- Mile 4.  You will keep LEFT and head on Root Creek Trail for ½ mile until you reach the Wilderness Area and will turn around back the way you came towards the Aid Station.  Once you reach the Aid Station- keep LEFT on Root Creek Trail to Vista Point Rd.  You will then proceed onto Vista Point Trail will take until you reach the Finish!

35k:

  • From Start Line- Take Campground Trail for ¾ of a mile and then keep RIGHT onto Flume Trail. You will keep Left and complete the loop.  Around mile 1.9 you will exit Flume Trail and head LEFT onto Bob’s Hat Trail.  You will stay on Bob’s Hat Trail until mile 3.5 and continue RIGHT on Crags Trail.  You will then reach the Aid Station 1 at Root Creek Trail- Mile 4.  You will keep LEFT and head on Root Creek Trail for ½ mile until you reach the Wilderness Area and will turn around back the way you came towards the Aid Station.  Once you reach the Aid Station- keep LEFT on Root Creek Trail to Vista Point Rd.  You will then proceed onto Vista Point Trail will take until you reach the Aid Station 2Mile 6.5 located at Start/Finish area.  After fueling- you will then proceed onto the River Trail over the Sac River and left on Riverside Road.  Around mile 8.1 you will turn RIGHT onto Forest Rd 38N23.  Turn up hill and follow this road which is steep in spots and eventually turns to dirt for 3.8 miles until you reach an intersection. Take the left turn up the hill (the road is still 38N23) and you will pass microwave towers. Continue past until the intersection with road 39N13. Turn left onto 39N13 and travel approximately 6/10th of a mile to an unmarked road. Turn LEFT and travel approximately 4/10th of a mile to the locked gate at the end of the road and the lookout and Aid Station 3 at mile 14.45.  Take in the views, fuel up and then proceed back the way you came and down the mountain.  Once you hit Riverside Rd you will take a LEFT and proceed across the footbridge onto River Trail and to the FINISH

50k:

  • From Start Line- Take Campground Trail for ¾ of a mile and then keep RIGHT onto Flume Trail. You will keep RIGHT onto Flume Trail until around mile 3 where you will turn around.  As you make your way back on Flume Trail, you will take a RIGHT onto Indian Creek Nature Loop Trail and continue until you take a LEFT onto Bob’s Hat Trail at mile 5.  You will stay on Bob’s Hat Trail until mile 6.6 and continue RIGHT on Crags Trail.  You will then reach the Aid Station 1 at Root Creek Trail- Mile 7.  You will keep LEFT and head on Root Creek Trail for ½ mile until you reach the Wilderness Area and will turn around back the way you came towards the Aid Station.  Once you reach the Aid Station- keep LEFT on Root Creek Trail to Vista Point Trail.  You will continue until you reach Vista Point Rd and go LEFT.  From there you will pass through Aid Station 2Mile 10.25 located at Start/Finish.  Continue onto River Trail across the Sac River and proceed LEFT on Riverside Rd.  Around mile 8.1 you will turn RIGHT onto Forest Rd 38N23.  Turn up hill and follow this road which is steep in spots and eventually turns to dirt for 3.8 miles until you reach an intersection. Turn left and travel approximately 4/10th of a mile to the locked gate at the end of the road and the lookout and Aid Station 3 at mile 18.25.  Take in the views and fuel up.  You will then head back towards Forest Rd 39N13 and Continue LEFT on 39N13 until you turn LEFT on  38N22Y.  You will hit Aid Station 4 at mile 27.  Fuel up and continue to Soda Creek Rd and go LEFT on Soda Creek Rd around mile 29.  Continue on Soda Creek Rd and then go LEFT on Riverside Rd.  You will take until you cross the Footbridge and enter back into the Park and continue to Finish!

STR Goes Cupless! In an effort to do our part in minimizing waste on and off the trails there will no longer be paper cups for water/soda/tailwind use but you will need to carry your own cup and/or water bottle to utilize at each aid station. It’s lightweight, easy to hold, reusable and collapsible so you can tuck it almost anywhere.

Refund Policy

Entry fees to STR runs are non-refundable. With advanced notice, we will transfer 100% of your entry fee if you reach out to us up to 30 Days prior to the event.  You will be able to transfer 50% of your entry fee from 29 Days up to 2 Weeks of the event. You will be able to transfer 25% of your entry free from 2 Weeks up to 96hrs of the event.  You must utilize the tranfer fee within 12 months to another STR Event.

If the race is cancelled due to Mother Nature- your entry fee will be rolled over to the following year.
